Welcome to The Truth About Alcohol. I’m Lee Davy.
This podcast is for people who know something about their drinking doesn’t quite add up — and want to understand why stopping can feel so much harder than it should.
No labels. No judgement. No “rock bottom” stories required.
We talk about what alcohol really does to the body, brain, and nervous system, why cravings and rituals are so persistent, and why willpower isn’t the issue most people think it is. You’ll hear calm, honest conversations that reduce shame, make the confusion make sense, and help you see your next step more clearly — whether you’re still drinking, trying to stop, or have stopped but don’t feel settled.
If you’ve ever thought, “I’m intelligent, capable, and functional… so why can’t I just stop?” you’re in the right place.

Ep 45: Danielle Boose
Sunday Jun 19, 2016
Sunday Jun 19, 2016
Welcome to Episode #45 of the AA Podcast and my guest Danielle Boose. Danielle is a self-described "Warrior Boss Lady", who shares her experiences from being broken and confused to a successful business owner, radio personality and public speaker. A former high school teacher and mental health professional, Danielle channelled her passion for empowering others through coaching them to identify their assets and uncover their inner warrior mindset. An intuitive and results oriented leader herself, Danielle engages and leads her audience through dynamic and interactive transformations. She’s devoted to empowering women business owners to find their authenticity, fine-tune their brand, and grow their revenue. Sharing her experiences and lending a helping hand to other women as well as her community is her life’s purpose. Through her leadership at Achievable Greatness, she serves youth and young adults by empowering, encouraging, and educating them through skill-based training and support. As a mother of two, she knows first-hand the difficulties that single mothers face with managing their responsibilities while accomplishing personal goals. With a commitment to serve, she offers the community wisdom, encouragement, and supportive resources to help individuals meet their goals using a transparent approach. Her playful delivery style allows for individuals to gain wisdom without all the seriousness. She prides herself in relaying a message to her audience that’s easily understood and provides real solutions to their everyday problems. Danielle’s warrior personality helps her to achieve her greatness, and she leaves her audience with the urgency to transform their own lives. In this episode, Danielle and I talk about achievable greatness, the importance of connecting with teenagers and young adults and to remove the command and control adult-child hierarchy and to level the communication playing field. We cover vulnerability, why so many young adults are afraid to come forward and seek help and what we can do to help that, what the most prominent forms of addiction Danielle sees in her work, why she decided to operate a non-profit instead of a for profit, what she would do with 10,000 hours of spare time, and much more. If you found it valuable and want to say thanks, then there are some things you can do that will put a smile on my face. Monday Jun 06, 2016
Monday Jun 06, 2016
I remember the first time I visited a bar after I quit drinking. My friend asked me what I wanted to drink and I didn’t know what to say. “I’ll have a cup of Tea." I told him. “I am not ordering you a cup of tea.” He replied. These days I mainly drink water and herbal tea. It’s not a problem for me. But I do know that a lack of choice is a problem for a lot of people who have decided to stop drinking alcohol. And this is why I asked Andy Torres to appear as my guest in Episode 43 of the Alcohol & Addiction Podcast. Andy is the author of Nourishing Concoctions a book containing 19 wonderful non-alcoholic mocktails and during this episode we talk about implementing mindfulness when creating your drink, the importance of ritual, and much more. Ep 41: Dustin Rudolph
Monday May 16, 2016
Monday May 16, 2016
Today, I am joined by Dustin Rudolph, a clinical pharmacist who in 2009 adopted a vegetarian diet before progressing to a whole food, plant-based vegan lifestyle. He is the author of The Empty Medicine Cabinet - http://www.needyhelper.com/the-empty-medicine-cabinet-by-dustin-rudolph-a-book-review/ a book that shows you another path to health; one that begins with the food that you put on your plate and not the drugs you receive from your doctor. Victoria Moran author of Main Street Vegan called him the ‘renegade pharmacist’. John Robbins, President of the Food Revolution Network, says after reading his book ‘your body will thank you for life.’ Janice Stranger, the author of The Perfect Formula Diet, nailed it when she said, ‘Who better than a pharmacist, deeply schooled in the complexities of the human body, to let you know the real story about treating illness symptoms with drugs vs. Curing disease with diet.' Drinking alcohol is a part of your diet. It wreaks havoc on your body, not too mention the food choices you make once intoxicated. People like Dustin Rudolph are whole food prophets. In this podcast, we talk about the lack of nutritional training Dustin received in pharmacy school, what books and documentaries helped him make the change to a whole foods plant based diet, and much more. If you found it valuable and want to say thanks, then there are some things you can do that will put a smile on my face. Ep 39: Laura Jones On How To Deal With A Partner Who Doesn't Want To Quit
Sunday Apr 10, 2016
Sunday Apr 10, 2016
In this week’s episode Laura Jones of Blackbird coaching joins me to offer advice and insight for people who have quit alcohol and are having relationship difficulties because their partner has not. During the interview we talk in depth about communication, the importance of support, and the crucial task of negotiating. Most importantly we talk about how incredibly difficult it is for someone who has quit alcohol, and then has to face gut-wrenching decisions because someone they love dearly no longer shares the same values. It’s a tough, tough subject, and I hope that Laura and I have done it justice. Other Nuggets Mentioned Throughout the Podcast Blackbird Coaching (http://blackbird-coaching.com/) The quote that Laura referred to by Anais Nin: Love never dies of a natural death. It dies because we don't know how to replenish its source, it dies of blindness and errors and betrayals. It dies of illness and wounds, it dies of weariness, of witherings, of tarnishing, but never of natural death.
