Welcome to The Truth About Alcohol. I’m Lee Davy.
This podcast is for people who know something about their drinking doesn’t quite add up — and want to understand why stopping can feel so much harder than it should.
No labels. No judgement. No “rock bottom” stories required.
We talk about what alcohol really does to the body, brain, and nervous system, why cravings and rituals are so persistent, and why willpower isn’t the issue most people think it is. You’ll hear calm, honest conversations that reduce shame, make the confusion make sense, and help you see your next step more clearly — whether you’re still drinking, trying to stop, or have stopped but don’t feel settled.
If you’ve ever thought, “I’m intelligent, capable, and functional… so why can’t I just stop?” you’re in the right place.

Laura Silverman belongs to a group of young American women who are making a big difference in the world of sobriety. They truly are a sobriety collective. After being hospitalised for the second time in 2007, Silverman decided enough was enough and ventured down the sober path so many of us are so frightened to step foot on. A decade later, after battling through anxiety, OCD, and frequent panic attacks, Silverman is a proud sober woman doing all she can to help others find the route back to life through her work at The Sobriety Collective. During this interview we talk about that fateful night in 2007, how she stays sober despite still suffering from anxiety, OCD, and panic attacks, and a whole lot more. Enjoy. Lucas Rockwood on Alcohol; Stress, and Much More Welcome to Episode # 92 of The Alcohol & Addiction Podcast the show designed to expose the truth about alcoholism by raising awareness of the powerful belief system that underpins it and then allowing people to make a more informed choice regarding drinking. Today, my guest is Lucas Rockwood from the Yoga Talk Show. I first learned about Lucas when I bought my wife a yoga trapeze from his YOGABODY store. I found out he had a podcast, listened to a few episodes and was hooked. Lucas lives in Barcelona, but is well travelled and extremely experienced in the realm of health and wellness. He talks with such authority of a wide range of subjects and doesn't give his guests a moments rest, which I love. In this episode, we cover a broad number of topics including the importance of getting your blood work done, his views on alcoholism and why he is 18-months sober, the importance of finding a great social structure, yoga, sleep, and how to deal with stress. Ep 91: Jon Bockman on Culture, Belief Systems, and The Power of Service
Monday May 15, 2017
Monday May 15, 2017
Welcome to Episode # 91 of The Alcohol & Addiction Podcast, where your host Lee Davy exposes the truth about alcohol so you can make a more informed choice about your drinking. If there are secrets to a sober life, then one of them is learning to serve others less fortunate than you, and my next guest has made it his life's work. Jon Bockman is the Executive Director of the non-profit Animal Charity Evaluators (ACE). Jon has held diverse leadership positions in nonprofit animal advocacy over the past decade. Jon’s career prior to ACE included serving as a director at a shelter and wildlife rehabilitation center, a humane investigator, and a founder of a 501(c)(3) farmed animal advocacy group. Accomplishments during these positions include releasing over 2,000 rehabilitated animals back into the wild, conducting investigations into dozens of cases of neglected animal care, leading hundreds of outreach events, and implementing international online campaigns to expose factory farm practices to over 25 million Mandarin, Hindi, and Russian-speaking Facebook users. During our conversation, Jon and I talk about his struggles with alcohol, the power behind service, and the invisible, dominant, and violent ideologies that allow us to eat meat and drink alcohol because it is seen to be both normal and pleasurable. Ep 90: Jamie Smart on Clarity, Connection and Contaminated Thinking
Monday May 08, 2017
Monday May 08, 2017
Welcome to Episode # 90 of The Alcohol & Addiction Podcast the show designed to help you reduce the leverage that alcohol has in your life and your relationships. I first heard about the work of Jamie Smart after I was fortunate enough to receive his book Results: Think Less. Achieve More as a Secret Santa gift, which is pretty impressive when you consider some of the crap you expect to receive under such circumstances. I loved it, bought his other gem Clarity: Clear Mind, Better Performance, Bigger Results, joined his private Facebook group and was also fortunate enough to take the stage with him for a spot of personal coaching. Jamie is a number 1 bestselling author, speaker and executive coach. He shows individuals and organisations the unexpected keys to clarity; the ultimate leverage point for creating more time, better decisions and meaningful results. His books CLARITY: Clear Mind, Better Performance, Bigger Results and The Little Book of Clarity have been read by over 50,000 people. His latest book, RESULTS: Think Less, Achieve More was released in 2016 and immediately became a Sunday Times Business Bestseller. Ep 89: Gary John Bishop Helping Us to Calm The F*ck Down
Monday May 01, 2017
Monday May 01, 2017
Welcome to Episode # 89 of The Alcohol & Addiction Podcast the show designed to help you reduce the leverage that alcohol has in your life and your relationships. I first heard about my next guest when my wife, Liza, bought me a book for Christmas called Unf*ck Your Life. I love books, but I think I have suffered a literary overdose because I can't remember the last time I read a decent one until I picked up this little gem from Gary John Bishop. As a working class Northerner, I loved his direct language. There was no frills, no hidden meanings, he just spoke from the heart, and I understood every single word. Gary is not only an author of a great book. He is a world class coach, facilitator, and has a very sexy Scottish accent, which is quite handy when listening to a podcast. This guy can change your life, and so I would pay serious attention to him. During our conversation, Gary talks about his love for ontology, why we are all perfect and whole but don’t even realise it, why we live life through our personae, why it’s important to be relentless, and he kindly points out that I have a few Mummy and Daddy issues.
