Welcome to The Truth About Alcohol. I’m Lee Davy.
This podcast is for people who know something about their drinking doesn’t quite add up — and want to understand why stopping can feel so much harder than it should.
No labels. No judgement. No “rock bottom” stories required.
We talk about what alcohol really does to the body, brain, and nervous system, why cravings and rituals are so persistent, and why willpower isn’t the issue most people think it is. You’ll hear calm, honest conversations that reduce shame, make the confusion make sense, and help you see your next step more clearly — whether you’re still drinking, trying to stop, or have stopped but don’t feel settled.
If you’ve ever thought, “I’m intelligent, capable, and functional… so why can’t I just stop?” you’re in the right place.

Welcome to Episode #47 of the Alcohol & Addiction Podcast and this week my guest is Melissa Johnson. Melissa is a dedicated member of the recovery community and a working mother of two children who inspires others with her personal accounts of addiction and recovery through blogging. She enjoys spending time with her kids, doing yoga, and investing in her non-profit outreach Clean Life.Clean Home where she provides a free home cleaning service for other sober parents. In this episode, we hear about Melissa's journey through alcoholism and drug addiction, a time in her life that eventually led to her losing her two children to foster care, not once but twice! And we talk about her recovery; the importance of her new blog, and her new cleaning service Clean Life. Clean Home. Thanks for listening. If you found it valuable, please head over to iTunes and leave a review. If you have any questions for Melissa or I, then leave a comment on the blog or email me at needyhelper@gmail.com. This podcast would not be possible without the sterling efforts of Neil Chow and Liza Lim, so big hugs and kisses to them, and also to you, the listeners, without whom this podcast wouldn’t be possible, so thanks for giving me your ear to bend.
